The Oʻahu Choral Society OCS was formed in 1995 as an administrative body for the former Honolulu Symphony Chorus and functioned for over a decade under the umbrella of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. The Chorus performed with the former Honolulu Symphony until 2009, plus independent concerts at many venues in the community. Today, OCS continues to perform major choral works with orchestra, including the newly established Hawai`i Symphony Orchestra (HSO), as well as smaller works with chamber ensembles, organ, piano, and a cappella. Local and international artists are featured as soloists, and OCS frequently joins with other arts organizations in the community to continuously deliver choral music for the Hawai’i Ohana.
OCS has commissioned new works by local composers, performed with the Hawai'i Symphony Musicians and the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony, hosted the visiting Junge Kammerphilharmonie Freiburg (from Freiburg, Germany), and collaborated with singers, musicians, and dancers on Oʻahu and Maui.
Our members include approximately 100 singers from all walks of life, from young adults to seniors, all united by their talent and love for classical music and choral singing.
The mission of the O'ahu Choral Society is to :
- Present the highest quality performances of great choral music for the enjoyment and enrichment of the community of Hawaii;
- Be a passionate leader and contributor to the cultural and artistic vitality and spirt of Hawaii; and
- Support and cultivate the love and appreciation for choral music.
