Mahalo for your interest in auditioning for the O'ahu Choral Society!

The O'ahu Choral Society is a volunteer, auditioned community chorus with a 30 year history of choral singing at a professional level. OCS performs with the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra, as well as independently and with other musical groups on the island. We are a diverse group with members coming from across the spectrum in age, occupation, cultural background, and location on island.

UPCOMING AUDITIONS for our 2025 - 2026 Season!
Auditions for new and returning members interested in joining us for the Spring half (January - May 2026) of our 2025-2026 season will be held on Monday, Jan 5, 2026, 5 - 7pm at the UH Music Building, Rm. 36.

Our 2026 Spring rehearsals begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, with our season concluding on Monday, May 18, 2026.

AUDITION PROCESS
Any singer who is at least 18 years of age or who has graduated from high school may audition. Please follow the steps outlined below:

1. Fill out the OCS Audition Inquiry form (button above) to request an audition.

2. Once you receive confirmation of your audition time slot:
  • Fill out an OCS Application Form (which will be emailed to you with your audition confirmation)
  • Bring the Application Form with you to your audition
  • Bring two copies of the sheet music for the piece you'll be singing, one for the Artistic Director and one for the accompanist     

3. WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE AUDITION:
  • Solo singing - One prepared classical art song, hymn, or aria in any language, to show your vocal quality and musicality - memorization optional, and an Accompanist will be provided.
  • Musicianship - Demonstration of musicianship skills through sight-reading, vocalization, and tonal memory.                          

GENERAL INFORMATION

Acceptance into the O‘ahu Choral Society (OCS) is by audition only.

OCS rehearsals generally take place on Monday evenings during the season (beginning of Sept through May), from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm at the University of Hawaii - Manoa, Music Department Room 36 (2411 Dole Street). There will be additional dress rehearsals throughout the season during concert weeks. A full rehearsal schedule will be provided to all members before the start of each season.

Membership dues are $250 per year/season. *Dues are waived for enrolled college students. Should anyone foresee the annual dues as a financial hardship that would hinder them from joining our choir, they may reach out to our Board Chair and/or Treasurer (after acceptance into the choir) to discuss a payment plan or apply for a partial or full scholarship. All student waivers and scholarships are granted and made available at the discretion of the OCS Board. Recipients of a scholarship or waived dues will be required to provide volunteer hours towards the organization.
